Sunday, September 29th, Barbados Guide held another productive Beach Cleaning Event at the beautiful Browne’s Beach on Carlisle Bay. To contribute once again to our beautiful Island. Marking the second Beach Cleaning event, folks from all strata of the community ventured out to lend a hand.

Together we were able to collect a considerable amount of Garbage from off the white sandy beaches along Carlisle Bay. We were joined by our old friends Enlightened Travelers once again, and our sponsors, Peter’s Barbados Bakery and Pop Up Coffee were on hand.

The delicious free donuts and coffee kept our crew focused and determined to collect all the trash scattered across the beautiful shoreline. In the morning heat of the sun, another one of our sponsors, Eco Skywater kept everyone hydrated and refreshed, thanks to their representative Ashley for joining and helping out

Barbados Guide is most grateful to the volunteers, who came out in support. Here Darren Virassammy of the YouTube Channel “The Flip the Script Family” and his children worked as a team to collect as much garbage as they could. They document their experience “Barbados Beach Cleanup” here for you to watch. It was great to see young and old from across our community coming out to help keep our environment clean.

Beach Clean Up #2 helps to keep Carlisle Clean.
Whilst there are great efforts to keep our beaches clean, there seems to be a persistent disregard for taking personal responsibility for one’s trash. From cigarette butts, plastic straws and beer and drink bottles to plastic bags and bottle caps. As Barbados Guide, we’d like to see our fellow Bajans take more care, and be more considerate when visiting our beaches, parks and public spaces. Keeping a plastic bag handy in the car for bottles and small throw away items should become a practice. Outing cigarette butts and placing them in your back pocket or back into the cigarette pack for later disposal are simple steps that can go a long way in contributing positively to your country and fellow Bajans.

A total of 36 full garbage bags were collected, our Soul Street Foundation sponsored buckets were used for sharp items and broken glass bottles. Parents brought their young children, one gentleman who is a landscaper with strong pride in his country also came to support the effort. Friends came with their wives, and we all worked well together, it was a great event.

The day concluded with a casual drumming session on an upturned bucket to celebrate the successful haul. We look forward to expanding on these ideas, growing our clean up community and tackling larger and more remote beaches in the future. Thanks again to all of our sponsor, those that came out, we at Barbados Guide Really appreciate your time effort and support.

Let’s all play our part, one beach at a time!
About Barbados Guide’s beach cleaning program.
Barbados Guide’s Beach Bin distribution program with the use of QR Codes and geolocating coordinates, will aid in ensuring that full bins are emptied and available for beach goers to use when needed. We would like to collaborate with the National Conservation Commission (NCC), to recycled donated packing barrels for use as garbage bins across the Island. To roll out and manage this joint venture program specially co-branded, we will seek to encourage a public/private partnership to work towards clean pristine beaches.
