I was looking forward to my trip, but the experience at Barbados Airport left a lot to be desired. The terminal is open-air, which means it gets uncomfortably hot, especially with the Caribbean humidity – not ideal when waiting for flights. On top of that, food options are limited, overpriced, and frankly disappointing in quality. A simple snack can set you back quite a bit, and the selection is poor. Overall, the airport needs improvement to make it more comfortable for travelers passing through.

Nice small/medium size modern airport, busier then expected for small airport.
Arrival:
-I arrived friday nov 15th on air canada flight. All planes use stairs at this airport, no jet bridges. but for me, a plane geek, its great to be outside beside the big B787.
-we then got on a bus, about 3 seconds after he started driving the driver slammed on the breaks causeing everyone to lunge forward. The bus only drove us about a 20-30 second bus ride to immigration. I did see when departing at this airport, that some flights do not use the buses, and there is a hallway for arrivals to walk to immigration instead.
-Immigration was reasonably good. They have passport kiosks first, then a bit of a line to get to the officer at the desk. No passport stamp so ask if you want one. Officer was fast.
-Then went into baggage claim. There is maybe 5-6 baggage conveyers, but the screen said 3 flights were on one, and most others nothing. As i waited for my bag, it was announced many times by passing workers that the british airways fight(not my flight) was moved to a different conveyor, so there was constantly british airways people coming and going when they heard the news. The bags came out so slowly. there would be 2-3 bags, then nothing for 4 min. Then 2-3 bags, then nothing for 5 min. My bag took over 45 min to come out. 3 planes full of people standing around as we see 3 bags every 5 min. one of the slowest baggage claims i have experienced.
-On exit there seemed to be a customs check but most including me didnt have any other contact, just followed the nothing to declare signs. There was a taxi stand outside with fares on a board. I told the guy where i was going and got me a taxi in 30 seconds.
Departure:
-My flight departed at 4 pm on Friday nov 22, but the ticket and airline said to arrive 4 hours early (normally airports say 3 hours but this is longer, i dont know why). So i arrived at 11:50am.
-on arrival the departures was not busy. Air canada doesnt have any self serve kiosks here, but they did have normal ticket counters, and they opened them at 12pm, 4 hours before the flight.
-The before security departures area is open air. the resturants and stores mostly are sealed with air conditioning inside, but the lobby and seating area before security is open air. There is signs in the seating area saying not to feed the birds. They have a crumbz, and chefette, and convinces stores, and a few others before security.
-security and immigration was quick. no line at all. but this is a busy airport, maybe i was just at a good time.
-Past security is a mini mall, with hot sauce stand, clothing and souvenir stores, food restaurants (subway, new york pizza, coffee stand, and others) and Atm.
-The lounge area is pretty big, its a long strip with gates 14 to 26 ish, 5 or so min to walk one end to the other. LOTS of seating. there is so many seats, you will never have a issue sitting down or even finding your own alone spot to sit. There was lots of planes coming and going and still lots of seating everywhere.
-The after security lounge is air conditioned, and there is even a few giant air cooling fans set up that people sat infront of. but as i walked the gates, workers at one gate had the doors to the planes open (with no plane or passengers) and you could feel the warm humid air come in as you went past it.
-I was in the lounge taking pictures of planes, and some lady worker, not security or airline but some other kind of worker, came up to me as i was taking a picture of a American Airlines 737 and she told me we arnt sopost to take pictures of the planes, and i couldnt contain myself and started laughing a bit and she walked away. There is no signs anywhere about not taking pictures, and no one else said anything, i kept taking pictures and used selfie stick to take pictures as i boarded the plane.
-Boarding went well, we walked right out to the plane, and up the stairs again. gates are infront of the planes.
Overall it was a good experience at this airport, except slow baggage claim.
-busy airport because of cruse port.

Had to ride a bus (packed) from the plane to the terminal. Make sure you complete your form online ahead of time. Stay to the right for the fastest immigration lines. Baggage came out very slowly in spite of having Priority tags with AA.

Love this island with it's wonderful beaches and multicultural society.Sadly excessive building and land clearance threatens the beauty and uniqueness of this island
