Haymans Market
Haymans Plantation was established on this site in 1649 after a purchase of smaller plantations by Henry Haymans a planter from England. Sugar cane was grown on the fields surrounding the Plantation, harvested and bought to this location to be processed into sugar by passing it through a number of machines to crush, boil and extract the golden sugar.
Over the years the location through many owners would have transformed from a simple wind driven mill and open boiling operation to a sophisticated electrified modern factory of its time.
Factory operations came to an end in 1988 when the factory closed its doors due to the changing state of the Sugar Industry in Barbados and over the years lay in a state of disrepair and abandonment. Its grounds and buildings were used as garages for equipment being used to harvest sugar and the factory machinery was removed and sold off leaving an empty shell.
In 2020 the factory was purchased by Sun Group Investments Inc. and our Chairman
Bernard Weatherhead announced the factory would be repurposed and transformed to a space combining living, learning, entertainment, retail shops and a market attraction for all to enjoy.

What a great way to use the remains of a sugar distillery. Turn it into a market with artusan shops and food stalls. A special mention to 'Rum & Co' a great little rum shop with some of the island's best rums on offer. Good luck, Mark, in your new venture.

Great place for a cocktail or dinner. They also have some boutique shopping opportunities. One of the few places on the island with Bubble Tea. Love the art and the historical plaques showing the history of sugar cane processing. They also have a nice event rental space. Worth the drive to the West Coast!

A little ways away from the beach but a great place for unique vendor items. We bought cupcakes, hot sauce, and honey. Plenty of other hand made items to choose from.

A great idea for what they did with this place.
This is a sugar factory convert that is now a pop-up market and it's overlooking the northern West coast of Barbados. The views from the west side of the compound are amazing.
There are several local shops, some offering international cuisine and arts. Many shops do not open very early .. I'd say probably closer to midday so if you're an early bird this is not ideal for you.
There are several open-air areas and large screens that you can take in entertainment throughout the market. There are many stairs throughout the market as well.
Events are also hosted by well-known names from time to time.
For the industrial lovers, you can see many of the sugar artefacts incorporated into the structure or refurbished and left in their semi original state.
The only thing that can be said in hopes they improve on, is the mosquitoes. There are hundreds of them flying around the property. Many of the staff there walk with zappers. I'd say to bring repellent when coming.

Quite an interesting place, a great attraction site for tourists. It can be described as a plaza, but I'd rather refer to to it as a 'vintage-style modern mall.' There were several shops with handcrafted accessories, including bags and shoes. There are also snacks, food stalls, which I find quite pricey given that I've been living here as a local. In addition, my favorite places in the whole mall were the art galleries. At the time I visited, they were two beautiful, art galleries inside the mall, both of which I loved.
