Located on Chamberlain Bridge...best known to locals as the Swing Bridge, in historical Bridgetown, the arch holds a significance to Barbados's Father of Independence and was commemorated on reaching 21 years of independence from Britain. The arch depicts symbols and meaning of Barbados's heritage including the pledge and coat of arms, also embedded in the arch is a bronze plaque of the former leader and national hero...along with the Square bearing his statue. Just opposite the arch in its photographic glory from here is the Parliament building as the swing bridge separates them....A must visit if you need to know a little history of the island.

Nice place to make some memorable pictures. If you keep going you can see Parliament building and on your left will be a beautiful pier. If you like shopping you can find plenty of small shops on Liverpool street area. There is a “Duty Free Shop” that you can shop and save lots of money. They will ship some items to airport for you ( like alcohol) for your flight.

Nice arch -Its on the corner of independence square, and at one end of the first bridge. -I was here on a lickrish food tour. explained the history behind it and meaning of the symbols. -The bridge is a draw bridge, it can raise and you obviously cannot pass when it is raised. the other bridge a block away is aways down.

Nice arch. It seems like it needs some restoration work and the lights could bee less bonding at night.

Historic site close to many others. Nice to walk around in afternoon when it’s not as crowded.
